In the fall of 1960, Floyd Cramer's 'Last Date' climbed to #2 on the Billboard pop chart & stayed there for weeks, but never could break through to #1... and do you know why? Two words: Elvis Presley. 🕺🏻 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' was in the top spot & just wouldn't budge! Sure, a #1 hit for 'Last Date' would have been nice for Grandad to claim, but 2nd place to what's become one of THE most famous songs ever recorded ain't bad. And to top it off, guess who played piano on this Elvis record?? 😏
