From his album of the same name, here’s Floyd Cramer’s instrumental interpretation of this whale of a song from 1968. Classical meets country… orchestra meets slip-note piano! Written by legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb, the song itself had quite a rich history, spanning years and genres… from its first release in 1968 by Irish legend Richard Harris which was a #2 Billboard hit and won Jimmy Webb a Grammy… to a country cover by Waylon Jennings in 1970 which also won a Grammy… to a disco version by Donna Summer in 1978 which went to #1!
