Remembering the legendary Jeannie Seely, who passed away on August 1…

It’s safe to say there will never be anyone like Jeannie Seely. It was only in recent years that our paths crossed, but even in that short time, Jeannie’s heart and soul made an impact that will stick with me the rest of my life, and she played a huge part in two key moments in my own musical journey.

First, in 2022, she was gracious to pay tribute to my Grandad Floyd Cramer at the Arkansas Country Music Awards, as she and I performed together to honor his induction into the Arkansas Country Music Hall of Fame. It was such a special evening for our entire family, and it’s where Avery fell in love with Miss Jeannie.

Then on New Year’s Eve of 2022, I was invited to make my Grand Ole Opry debut, and I knew exactly who I wanted to join me on the Opry stage. Jeannie came out with me to sing “The End Of The World,” alongside fellow legend and friend Charlie McCoy, and it’s a memory I will cherish forever. She was such a champion for up and coming artists throughout her entire career, and I was so humbled to get to experience that first hand on “her” stage, the Grandest stage in the world.

The most special part of all, though, is that our connection actually began two generations ago – because it was none other than Floyd Cramer who played piano on her landmark 1966 album, The Seely Style, including on her Grammy-winning song, “Don’t Touch Me.” It’s amazing how life has a way of circling back around.

Jeannie, thank you for the enduring impact you’ve made on Country music, on the Opry, and on me. Your legacy will live on forever…

Tomorrow, Thursday, August 14 at 10 AM CT, the Opry is paying tribute to Jeannie Seely with a memorial service at the Opry House, which they are appropriately billing as “Jeannie Seely’s 5,398th Opry Show.” The event is open to the public, and the Opry will stream this special service LIVE online and on WSM, so be sure to tune in:
