🎵 Dream (feat. Boots Randolph🎷)

Remembering Boots Randolph today, 18 years since he passed away on July 3, 2007 at age 80.

A member of the Nashville A-Team of ace studio musicians, you can hear Boots playing saxophone on an untold number of mega-hits over the decades, in addition to his own hits like his signature song ‘Yakety Sax.’ He also performed for many years alongside Chet Atkins and my Grandad Floyd Cramer in the Masters Festival of Music concert tours. (I love hearing the stories of how many of you remember seeing them in concert through the years, and how, without fail, they were the best concerts you ever attended!)

I got to record with Boots on one occasion. In early 2007 he joined Meagan Taylor (Chet’s niece) and me at RCA Studio B to record this old Johnny Mercer song, ‘Dream’, for our album Revival. The recording session was in February; he passed away suddenly in July. Boots’ personality was larger-than-life, and as you can hear on our record, he was still at the top of his game. What a gift to share this moment with him and recapture even in a small way a little bit of that Chet, Floyd & Boots magic.

There will never be another Boots Randolph. 🎷
