Today we think of this as a gospel standard, but in 1971, when Grandad recorded his Sounds of Sunday gospel album, the song Oh Happy Day was having its ā€œmoment,ā€ with the Edwin Hawkins Singers’ arrangement winning a Grammy and rising to become a Top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 the year prior. You could always count on Floyd Cramer to put his slip-note spin on whatever were the most popular, current songs of the day, and Oh Happy Day certainly fit the bill!
